Between The Wars Part 4

Going back to the designing of my suit, I started to look at suits designed by contemporary designers and what was currently in trend on and off the catwalk to drawer inspiration. Suits with bow ties are very now and were also very popular in the 1920’s so this seemed like a good route to explore. Designers such as Burberry, Rag and Bone and Band of Outsiders have all included bow ties in either A/W 09 or S/S 10.

How could I incorporate a bow tie into my design?
I went back to my photographs from Cosford, the propellers from a photo I had taken whilst at Cosford inspired me. I used the propellers as inspiration for an oversized lapel and bow tie design on my jacket

I was pleased with this design but the was a great deal more designing to be done before I reached a final design.

Rivets, rivets, and rivets this was a running theme on pretty much all the Planes tanks and machinery I photographed whilst at Cosford. Okay how can I take this initial idea and integrate it into my design? As a designer it is important that I constantly question myself so I can create a piece that is true. I came across a beautiful dress designed by Marc Jacobs that resembled rivets it was studded all over.

Suit design with stud detail to represent rivets.
