After what felt like a life time of walking. I finally reached the; Royal College of Art, London. I was there to see Aitor Throup's interpretation of the iconic Goggle Jacket originally designed by Massimo Osti for C.P. Company, I can say all the walking was well worth it as the exhibition was truly inspirational.
20 Goggle Jackets past and present lined the wall in chronological order from the very first version (1988) and ending with Aitor Throup re-designed version. On the opposite side of the exhibition room was a look into Aitor Throup's design process itself, with the actual first blocking sculpture and calico prototype suspended with the same amount of importance as the finished piece. There was also a 3-dimensional step-by-step guide, depicting the ergonomics of the driving jacket from toile to finish.
Technically the C.P. Company Goggle Jacket is far superior to that of any garment I have ever seen. I was blown away by the thought that had been but into every aspect of the wearers comfort and need for car racing. As a fashion designer I aspire to reach the high standard of innovative designers such as Throup. Unfortunately I was unable to take any pics of the exhibition itself. So you will have to go and see it for yourself!
