I already had the intention of coming down to London on Wednesday afternoon to spend some time with Nush so I couldn’t imagine my luck when I stumbled across this flyer on a blog, I got on the phone to Nush we are going.
The night was to celebrate the official launch of Emalkay's anthem WHEN I LOOK AT YOU out on lp!
We headed down to East Village around 11.00, when we got there Caspa was on the decks with Rod Azlan up to is usually antics on the mic!
The highlight for me was still to come when a certain David Rodigtan got on the ones and twos what a treat. This guy worked with the original true pioneer of the dub sound King Tubby. A little back ground information on King Tubby he was a sound engineer from Jamaica he build possibly the greatest sound systems of the 60's 70's and through to his death in the late 80's. With his knowledge of sound equipment he began to produce for various artists. Tubby was able to play the mixing desk like an instrument, bringing instruments and vocals in and out of the mix literally dubbing them to create an entirley new genre known as dub. At one point Rodigan stopped the vinyl to show the crowd an original photograph of Tubby what a moment David was using his platform to educate a new generation. I think it is very important that we know where the influences for the sounds that we listen to today came from hearing this man speak was an education and privilege. He was playing original dub plates that date back as far as the 60's I was in my element. LEGEND!
Last to play was Emalkay obviously he opened with When I Look At You after we heard that it was time to go Nush had work the following day so we needed to get home. What a night if you ever get the chance to see David Rodigan play please go this man blew my mind and he deserves the up most respect from the dubstep community he was one of the originates that paved the way for the sound that so many of us love.
